Climb Nephin Mountain, Irelands highest stand alone mountain at 804meters high.
Nephin Mountain sits in northern Mayo overlooking the famous Lough Conn and the mountains of Ballycroy and boasts views from Downpatrick Head all the way round to the peaks of Achill Island, Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay to the south.
Standing a lofty 804 meters high, Nephin holds the record of Irelands highest stand-alone mountain meaning no other hill line or mountain attaches to Nephin giving the mountain the impression of erupting out of the landscape that surrounds it. The standalone sensation can also be felt on the climb as the land below falls away in all direction with each higher step higher, a true 360-degree panoramic view awaits at the rocky summit.
The route takes us up the steep but safe northwestern spur of the mountain and decent is via the northeastern spur giving us an enjoyable loop walk of this metamorphic giant, hear of how it formed millions of years ago and how it comes to look like it does today from our guides as they lead you safely through this thrilling hike.
This hike will see you climb over 730 meters and walk a distance of 10km lasting roughly 5 hours.
